— Les Mains · La Formulation

Every one of the thirty-four.

A water-based emulsion — the first in the range. Four actives do the work on the four ways hands age, and the other thirty are here to carry them, hold the water in, and keep the formula safe on a bathroom shelf. Nothing hidden, including the parts a free-from list would rather not mention.

N° 01
WaterAqua
SolventThe base

This is the range's first water-based product, and that is deliberate. An oil cannot deliver water to skin that has none — and the back of the hand loses water faster than anywhere else on the body. Water is first on the list because it is doing a job the oils cannot.

N° 02
GlycerinGlycerin
HumectantPlant-derived

The most studied humectant in cosmetic chemistry. It pulls water into the upper layers and holds it there between washes — which on hands is the difference between comfortable at noon and tight again by ten past.

2ndPosition on the INCI
N° 03
Shea ButterButyrospermum parkii
BarrierWest Africa

The occlusive half of the formula. Shea is what stays on the skin after the water phase has gone in, and it is the reason the elixir survives a wash rather than leaving with one.

N° 04
DimethiconeDimethicone
Slip and sealSilicone

Yes, there is a silicone in this product, and we would rather tell you than let you find it. It is here for two reasons: it seals the water in behind the shea, and it is what makes the formula absorb without leaving your hands slippery on a phone or a steering wheel. It means we cannot call this silicone-free, and we do not.

N° 05
Centella AsiaticaCentella asiatica
Active — repairLeaf extract

The calming extract used on skin that has been stripped. Hands are washed more than any other part of the body and pay for it in comfort. Centella is in this formula for that specific damage.

N° 06
PanthenolPanthenol
Barrier supportPro-vitamin B5

Converts to vitamin B5 on the skin. Long-established in barrier repair and one of the few ingredients dermatologists reach for on hands specifically.

N° 07
Jojoba OilSimmondsia chinensis
Sebum mimicSonoran Desert

Structurally a wax ester rather than a triglyceride, which is why skin recognises it as its own rather than resisting it. The same jojoba as L'Huile — the bridge between the two products is deliberate.

N° 08
Camellia JaponicaCamellia japonica
EmollientIzu Islands, JP

Tsubaki oil, used by the women of the Japanese Imperial Court for over a thousand years. Its oleic profile mirrors human sebum. Also in L'Huile, for the same reason.

N° 09
Hyaluronic AcidSodium hyaluronate
Active — waterBio-fermented

The low-molecular-weight salt form, which sits better in a hand product than the raw acid. It holds water where the back of the hand loses it fastest, and on skin this thin that is the whole game.

N° 10
PhytosterolsPhytosterols
Lipid supportPlant-derived

Plant sterols that resemble the lipids skin makes for itself and stops making as reliably after forty. They are here to support a barrier that is thinner on the hand than almost anywhere else.

N° 11
BakuchiolBakuchiol
Hero active — renewalBabchi seed, India

The plant alternative to retinol. It supports the look of renewed, denser-feeling skin with daily use, without the peeling, the redness or the photosensitivity — which is decisive on hands, because they are outdoors all day whether you planned it or not. Retinol on hands is a summer you spend hiding them.

N° 12
Vitamin CAscorbyl tetraisopalmitate
Hero active — toneStable ester

The oil-soluble, stable form that does not oxidise on the shelf the way L-ascorbic acid does. It works on the tone around sun marks so they read as part of your skin rather than sitting on top of it. It will not erase them, and nobody honest will tell you it does.

Now that you've met the formula, the only thing left is to use it generously and photograph your hands in four weeks.
